NCE Welcomes FORTA Corporation as a new Principal Member.

FORTA® Corporation, founded in 1978, was the first producer to introduce synthetic fiber reinforcements to the U.S. construction market. Today, the company, based in Grove City, PA is recognized as a leader in synthetic fiber research and development, with successful applications around the world. The new products continue FORTA’s legacy of innovation that began with their first patent for an asphalt-reinforcing product in 1982. FORTA products have played an important role in improving the performance and durability of concrete and asphalt for over 30 years, creating a history of “Reinforcing the Future – Worldwide”.

FORTA recognizes the significance of the continuing research work conducted by NCE staff and students on the use of fibers in paving materials, which has proven to be very valuable for the industry. In the past, two projects were funded by FORTA Corporation in the State of Arizona. The fiber-reinforced asphalt concrete (FRAC) mixtures used in the two projects were investigated at ASU laboratories. Future efforts will focus on advancing the state-of-the-art and practice of using fibers in sustainable paving construction materials.

The NCE thanks FORTA Corporation for their trust in the quality of the center’s research activities, and their continuing financial support and looks forward to a long-term cooperative research association with them.
